What the D means

D stands for denier, a measure of yarn thickness. The higher the number, the thicker the yarn and the heavier, more abrasion-resistant the fabric.

The case for 1000D

1000D nylon is extremely tough and tear-resistant, ideal for heavy use and rough terrain — at the cost of extra weight and less airflow.

Where 500D fits

500D nylon keeps strong durability while staying noticeably lighter, making it the better pick for everyday wear, running chest packs and lightweight vests.
